After we got settled in, we walked around downtown, saw a beautiful sunset, and ate dinner at a restaurant called Dos Locos where we both ordered the Burrito Grande, and, boy, was it big!
We walked down the main trail for a bit until coming to a path that supposedly led to a waterfall, so of course we went down the trail! After walking--sweating--for 30 minutes, we came to the place the waterfall was supposed to be and watched a trickle of water stream down a big rock. Fun fact: we missed the sign at the entrance of the trail that said "Don't go expecting to see a waterfall because you won't see one." You know what we did see though? Lizards, a poisonous but pretty green and black frog, a Central American agouti (it's like a mole-rat-looking animal that is as big as a cat, but has legs like a deer) and...A SLOTH!! It was awesome! When got back on the original trail, we found another trail that would lead us to one of the beaches, and that, my friends, is the trail where we saw our first monkeys. That's right, I said monkeys. They were super cute and swinging up in the trees.
entire day, was stealing out of other people's bags! They tried stealing everyone's food! I swear they had some kind of strategic plan going on; one or two would distract the tourists while the others stole all of their food once their backs were turned! If you were out in the ocean for too long and were close to a tree (which you wanted to be under for the shade because of the heat), the monkeys would be taking your lunch before you could yell, "Someone stop that monkey from taking my lunch!" Don't let their cuteness fool you! There were raccoons that were also trying to steal people's food, but they weren't as cute as the monkeys, so they didn't succeed as much. | |
Thankfully, the monkeys didn't take anything of mine or Xavier's. I think it's because we had an iguana friend who was scaring off all of the monkeys! He stayed next to us the entire day. We were in Manuel Antonio National Park for a total of 9 hours. When we got there, we were practically the only ones on the beach for about an hour! It was wonderful! We spent the majority of our time in the water because it was so hot outside. The water was really warm and felt great! We played in the sand--Xavier buried me and made me into a mermaid like Joey on Friends! Before we left the park for the day, though, we went on a really neat hike to Cathedral Point where we saw three beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. Somehow, even though I put on 5 layers of sunscreen, I got a bad sunburn on my back. |
